Yin Yoga is a relaxing meditative style of yoga that focuses on stretching the myofascial connective tissues. These are the tissues in the body that benefit most from long slow forms of stretching. Yin Yoga is a natural healing practice that helps keep you feeling young and supple. It is the ultimate stress release.
Yin Yoga poses are passive, meaning you relax muscles and let gravity do the work. It presents a different type of challenge because the poses are held for up to 5 minutes. It can provide an enormous amount of relief to bodies that are overworked and stressed. You can be supported by props (bolsters, blankets, bands and blocks) to allow you to relax and go deeper into the stretch.
Anyone can do Yin Yoga, no matter your size, shape, age or yoga experience. Combine Yin Yoga with our Power Yoga or Pilates classes for the ultimate combination of strength, flexibility and relaxation benefits.
Some of the benefits of a regular Yin Yoga practice include:
- A calmer more relaxed you
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Improved circulation
- Improved concentration
- Improved flexibility
- Greater joint mobility
Our Hot Yoga classes are Vinyasa Yoga with the room heated to between 31 and 34 degrees. Hot Yoga provides all the benefits of our Power Yoga including improved strength, flexibility, stamina and balance. The theory behind Hot Yoga is that the increased temperature helps warm muscles and joints providing increased flexibility, allowing you to go deeper into poses and maximize the benefit. The increased circulation and sweating is helpful in removing toxins. Many participants enjoy the combination of an intense physical workout combined with the mental challenge of sustaining their effort in the heat. Others enjoy the sense of cleansing and detoxification and feel energized by their practice. Newcomers to Hot Yoga may find the experience a little uncomfortable at first, but if you relax into it you will soon begin to enjoy it.
Power Yoga is a vigorous style of contemporary Vinyasa Yoga. It incorporates strength, posture, flexibility, balance and physical and mental stamina training all in the one class. Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement”. Each Power Yoga class will take you through a series of poses matched with your breath to maximize the intensity of, and benefit from, the workout. Synchronizing your movement with your breath requires focus and helps you relax and concentrate on each pose and achieve optimum technique. Vinyasa movements are smooth flowing which is why it is sometimes referred to as Vinyasa Flow or just Flow.
